WHY IS FISHING SO GOOD IN TAHSIS?

The answer is – Area 25 - Esperanza Inlet & Nootka Sounds have been involved in an intense Salmon Enhancement Program in six rivers in the area, done primarily by volunteer hatcheries, for many years. River and Stream Rehabilitation Projects, Volunteer Hatchery Programs, and a Collaborative Agreement Process with the local Federal Hatchery has increased the release of salmon by 25%. All of this results in the release of approximately 5 million Chinook and 500 thousand Coho salmon fry annually in our local waters. It’s the three “P’s” - projects, program, and process that have PRODUCED some of the Best Salmon Fishing/Catching in all of west coast Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Westview Marina’s Salmon Enhancement Derby has raised over $500,000 within the past 16 years of their annual derby and other fundraising activities! All of these funds have contributed to the three “P’s” objective.

Area 25 Esperanza Inlet/Nootka Sound August Fishing Report

Fishing/Catching- Albacore Tuna are starting to showing strong inside of the south Brooks Peninsula weather buoy.

Yes, the pinnacles and the highway edges near Crowther and Kyuquot Canyons are starting to hold significate numbers of large schools of Tuna.

These Albacore are inside of 15 miles off shore. There is no other place on the West Coast of Vancouver Island that these fish are so close to shore.

Albacore are the strongest fighting fish in these pacific water pound for pound. Fresh Tuna is delicious grilled or raw (sashimi).

Catching Albacore is so exciting because most hookups are doubles, triples, quads or all the lines - FISH ON!!!

The local Tuna fisher say “ it is the most FUN you can have in a boat with your cloths still ON!

Coho – the large rain event, that push the Salmon into Area 25, are a bit late this year.

As a result, as of today there is not a considerable amount of Coho around both Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet. But they will arrive soon in Esperanza all around Centre Is, Fairway Is, Double Is, Otter Is and Saltery Bay are ALL plugged with Coho.

In Nootka on the north side of the inlet at the Light House and Wash Rk. On the south side of the inlet Escalante Rks and PT are both holding fish also inside all of Tlupana Inlet, mainly along the shore lines.

Small lures like Coho killers, Wee Gees and Anchovies are scoring well.

_____________________________________________________________________

Chinook - Anchovies Coho Killers work Best on these fish. Hatchery fish are stacked up at Coopte & Hoiss Points and the Wall on the north side of Tlupana Inlet on both sides of Hisnit Inlet in Nootka.  In Esperanza Outer & inner Black Rk, Catala Is Glory Hole, Rosa Harbour, Garden Pt., the Log Dump all the way down that shore line to Saltery Bay. The various hatchery fish are in everywhere.

Chinook are being limited out on inside water in Lots of places by Lots of Fisher by or before NOON! Catching doesn’t get any better than this.

With the long term weather saying no major weather events until at least after Labour Day this Catching frizzy will likely last to mid September.

September and beyond weather and regulations will determine the viability of Fishing/Catching Tuna, Halibut, Lingcod and Prawns.

2021- If you are considering Fishing/Catching in Esperanza/Nootka in 2021 we would recommend reservations. Likely the US/CA boarder will be open for the 2021 season. Lots of Canadian’s have discovered, for the 1st time, Esperanza/Nootka with it’s abundance of fish and the best possession limits of ALL areas in Western Canada.

There will be a robust return of both CA and US fishers for next season. So make your reservations for camping, lodging, moorage, charters, ECO Tours, Kayak & Paddle board rentals, Water Taxies, meal planes, etc. before there is NO Room at the INN.

Unfortunately we have lost a few regional operators due to C-19. That converts to less overall capacity.  So make those reservations early to get your dates YOU WANT!!

Stay warm, dry and Safe. See you next year.

Make your summer 2021 reservations now!
