FISHING REPORT- Winter Springs On those clear cool mostly sunny days of late winter there are more boats on the water than most people think. Locals from Gold River, Tahsis and Zeballos get out on most fishable day. On weekend fishers from Comox to Campbell River show up. Their efforts have general been reworded with chrome bright 8 to 14 lb. feeder Springs. These hard fighting feisty fish have deep red color meat and when they get to the table are excellent fair. Fishing deep along structure for Winter Springs usually produces the best results. These fish are feeding on shiners so “match the hatch” by using small glow/white/green hoochies, Glow Green 4in. Coyotes & Coho Killers. Hot Spots in Esperanza Inlet are - Hecate Channel, all around Center Island and Garden Point. In Nootka Sound Hot spots are- Coopte Pt., Hoise Pt. and Boston Pt. to Marvinas. All these spot are in calm waters and will bloody up your fish box!!! While fishing (or thinking about fishing) for these Feeder Springs in March keep in mind that we are only 90 days from the opening of what appears to be the BEST returns in years on Both Chinook (Springs/Kings) and Coho (Silvers) on the West Coast of Vancouver Island (WCVI). Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet are both at the top of the list for HUGE retunes of both species of salmon This Season. Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society (TSES) This award is given to organizations in honor of their contribution to the conservation, restoration and enhancement of recreational fisheries and their habitats in Canada.
