FISHISHING REPORT "The Fishing Just Keeps Getting BETTER"

  ESPERANZA INLET and NOOTKA SOUND

JULY 15 Changes in Salmon Regulation HELPED move boats around in Area 25/125 CATCHING remains strong.

NOOTKA- Conuma River hatchery fish have showed up in good numbers. Large schools of Chinook/King & Coho/Silvers are feeding on needle fish off every point & structure from outer Bajo Reef all the way in to Coopte Pt./ Hoiss Pt.  At Bajo fish deep 100-150ft right off the bottom not only will you catch salmon but you will hook Halibut & Lingcod. Further into the sound 50ft seems to be the depth to set the lines. Anchovies, or your favorite Hoochie, are working best. If you have a white or glow oil slick hoochie try it you will like the results

ESPERANZA- The Pinnacles are on FIRE. Esperanza (Four Mile) Reef & the Highway are all producing BIG Chinook/Kings (25-38lbs) in good numbers. Fish with 5½ in anchovy, Hoochie Hook/Tailwagger spoons “Green Spatter-Cream” or a 5in. Glow Green Chartreuse Coyote spoon are all working well. The magic depth is in and around 145ft to set your downrigger lines at.  While you are out there, after fishing for salmon, drop down your Halibut gear they are in the same areas. Fishing with a spreader bar and extra-large herring is producing the best results.

Rosa Harbor & all around Catala Is. are HOT fishery for Coho/Silvers and under 77cm/30in Chinook/Kings Setting lines at 42ft. is producing the best.

The 10th Annual Salmon Enhancement Derby is Friday August 23rd & Saturday August 24th. Based on the fishing results The Volunteer Enhancement efforts are certainly WORKING!!

Lots of GREAT Prizes have already been gathered—Bradley Smoker, Scotty downrigger & prawn puller, S/S BBQ From Super Store, Marine Electronics, Power washer & lots of tools, Tons of fishing tackle & clothing,& MUCH MORE. Every one present at the Awards Banquet Saturday evening will receive at least one prize & DINNER. Tahsis Lions Club will be serving the cash bar. Tahsis salmon Enhancement Society will be cooking up the BBQ salmon with all the fixings.

Come Join the fun. Live Music Saturday night at the banquet (at the Tahsis Rec. Center) & at the Marina Friday Steak Night & Rock the Dock.

This DERBY continues to be a very successful, worthwhile, FUN EVENT. Come join the party. Free rides home will be provided.
