JULY 2016....THEY ARE HERE.

BEST KEPT SECRET ON THE WEST COAST OF VANCOUVER ISLAND

Hello {tag:firstname},

They are HERE!

Yes, it is no longer necessary to go out to the Highway to pick up Springs/Kings & Coho!!!

They have made the turn and the fish are feasting on lots of bait all around Catala Is., Double Is., Pin Rks., & Ferrer PT. in Esperanza. No doubt they will swing into Nootka soon at Beano Cr., Maquinna Pt. & Rks., Wash Rk. & the Nootka Lighthouse.

The average size of the Chinook is up by 5lbs over the last 2yr average. They are 18-28lbs and growing daily. Largest Spring/King so far is the 33lb Tyee Pictured below. “Congratulations to Kyle”

Halibut – We are still surprised at the volume of Halibut that continue to come in daily. With the not to exceed 133cm regs. this season the average Hali weight is hovering around 37lbs. The other interesting thing about fishing Flatties this yr. is they are everywhere. All of their normal places as well as most of the popular salmon fishing areas. Every day there are confirmed stories of catching Halibut while trolling for Salmon.

Ling & other Cod Nootka & Esperanza have long been known for having HUGE schools of bottom fish.

Flaky white meat makes for Great Fish n Chips. They can be found on a contour on the outside of most reefs. The new Lighthouse Blinking Bottom fish lures seem to increase the catching with a little herring scent or bait added. Come to the tackle shop at the Marina & we will point you to the latest hot spots.
