Season 2014 Begins

Hello

TUNA, TUNA, TUNA

More GOOD news. Environment Canada and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration just released their long range forecast for late spring & summer 2014. The plus for Albacore Tuna fishing is that in mid-July they are forecasting an El Nino to move into our area off the West coast of Vancouver Island (WCVI).

What does that mean for TUNA FISHING? The warm water that brings Albacore Tuna from the south up WCVI to our area will definitely be here this season and it should, from this forecast, be earlier than in recent years. Not only will the water temperatures be up but, the summer air temperatures are forecasted to be above average. THINK SUMMER TIME, ALBACORE TUNA FISHING & COLD BEVERAGES.

If you have not yet seen our TUNA,TUNA,TUNA Video made last September while fishing off Esperanza inlet or, if you just want one of the best fishing adrenalin rushes you ever had

HOW & WHERE TO CATCH AN ALBACORE TUNA AS CLOSE AS 15 MILES FROM SHORE

We are very fortunate here in the Esperanza Inlet area because we are closer to the Tuna Grounds than any other area on West Coast Vancouver Island (WCVI).

1st Tuna feed near sharp deep edges on the ocean floor (canyon edges) these canyons in areas south of Esperanza are 45 to 55 miles off shore. Off Esperanza these canyons are less than 20 miles. We often fish Tuna less than 15 miles off shore.

2nd Tuna are found in water temperatures above 15*C/60*F. Again, this warm water south of Esperanza Inlet is approx. +/- 50 miles off shore.

The current known as the Davis Current moves south off Cape Scott at the top of Vancouver Island then goes south/east as it comes around Brooks Peninsula. This current pulls the warm water in toward shore. The warm water can be within 10 miles of shore.

*We have Tuna Fishing seminars every Thursday evening at the Marina in August & the 1st three Thursdays in September.

*Also available are Bring Your Own Boat Group Tuna Fishing Trips every Friday in August & 1st three Fridays in September.

*We have Guided Albacore Tuna Charters in our certified large vessels that are crewed by an experienced certified staff.

The Gear Out Here - Tackle That Works!

Hello John,

I received reports from my commercial fishing buddies and there are some good numbers of big springs being caught on the 50 fathom edge off Esperanza/Kyuquot. Some had a 12 lbs average dressed weight and that’s good. The forecasts could be correct.

All the best,

Randy

Randy Sadler is a commercial fisherman and operates a packer vessel. The Dressed weight in this case means head off- guts out, so that means they are catching fish weighing an average of 17lbs this early in the season. That is VERY Good!!!!

Randy is also the manufacture of Kitetail Lures (flashers). Try one you will like it, especially in the early season when you are fishing small lures & anchovies. Way less drag with plenty of flash.”
