April Fishing Report -

The prawning is over the top GOOD!!! Limits of 200 per day are the norm. Lots of fishers have figured it out

Halibut – Effective April 1st2014.

The size limits have increased for your 2 Hali. in possession.

The slot Limits are:

- 1st halibut no larger than 90cm/35.5in.= approx. 20lbs.

- 2nd halibut in possession no larger than 133cm/52in.= approx. 65lbs

“Both slot limits are a nice increase in weight over last year. That is a potential of 85lbs. of HALIBUT to take home!!!”

Yes they are all on line now. NOT TO WORRY!!! Westview Marina has been chosen to be an “Independent Access Provider” We Have ALL the types of Saltwater Licences & Stamps available here at the Marina as in past years. The projections for local returning Chinook have jumped from 65,000 to 85,000 WOW that is an all-time record!!!


GET READY TO CATCH LOTS OF SALMON

Stay tuned there are motions being but forward to Department of Fishery and Oceans (DFO) by the Sports Fish Advisory Committee (SFAC). The objective of these motions is to increase harvest opportunity of local Chinook that are not needed for brood stock while at the same time protecting sensitive areas where non-enhanced stock exist.


In Esperanza Inlet the motions are to put a large area inside the surf-line into a 1 over 77cm & 1 under 77cm Chinook retention area, while at the same time closing some sensitive areas.

Also the projections for Sockeye moving down the West Coast of Vancouver Island (WCVI) this season has jumped from 23 million to something north of 70 million. Yes we will get a sockeye opening this year. These are delicious eating fish. Limit will most likely be 2 per day 4 possession. YUM! YUM!! Sharpen those HOOKS!!!
