Derby 2011

Westview Marina and Lodge, Tahsis BC 2011 Salmon Enhancement Derby was a fabulous success!!!


144 people entered and fished the event and over 200 people attended the awards banquet held at the Tahsis Recreation Center. The Live auction, Silent auction, Sponsor Board, and entry fees raised a total of $21,027.21!


The Funds will be distributed as follows:

$3,200 – Nootka Sound Watershed Society

These funds will be part of the $32,000 raised by the society to increase the Conuma hatchery Chinook stock at the hatchery from 1.6 million to 2.7 million, an increase of 1.1 million salmon.

$3,000 – Zeballos Salmon Enhancement Society

These Funds will be used to re-open the hatchery that provides Chinook stocks to both the Big and Little Zeballos rivers. This hatchery will raise and release 100,000 Chinook salmon.

$14,827.21 – Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society

These funds will help the society reach their target of raising and releasing 250,000 Chinook Salmon and 200,000 Coho salmon for 2012. Funds will also be used to for care and feeding of the fish, putting a new roof on the egg incubator building, and to upgrade the fish holding tanks.
