Ocean Directions to Tahsis
Note: these ocean directions are not intended to substitute for the use of Government Nautical Charts or proper trip planning, and is only intended as a general preliminary guide.

Sailing North from Victoria: From Victoria you proceed North to Sooke which has a Government Warf, which is often full. There are no Marinas in Sooke, no fuel available. The next stop is Barclay Sound and Bamfield. There are anchorages throughout Barclay Sound, there is a Marina and a Government Dock in Bamfield, and fuel is available.

Next stop is Ucluelet, then Tofino, which have docks and Marinas. Both Ucluelet and Tofino are quite busy in the summertime, and docking space can be difficult to find in the busy season. Both have fuel and facilities.

Next stop North is Clayoquot Sound with lots of anchorage, and a small dock at Hot Springs Cove. No fuel is available at Hot Springs Cove.

Next stop North is Nootka Sound. At the Southern end of Nootka Island is Friendly Cove, where Captain Cook first landed and claimed British Columbia for Britain. There is a Government Dock, and a landing fee to the local Indian Tribe. There is fuel and a Marina.

From Nootka Sound, you cruise up the Tahsis Inlet to Tahsis, which has a Government Dock & Westview Marina. Westview Marina is a full service Marina, with fuel, laundromat, tackle, showers, Art Gallery Gift Shop and restaurant/snack bar.

When leaving Tahsis, you can go back out the Tahsis inlet, or you can go through 'the cut' between Tahsis Inlet and Esperanza Inlet. You can go up the Zeballos Inlet to Zeballos, a historic Gold Mining town with fuel and a Government Dock. Or, you can continue up Esperanza Inlet to the North side of Nootka Island and the open Pacific Ocean. Services are very sparse North of Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet.

Cruising North, the next stop is Kyuquot Sound with a Government Dock, no fuel, no Marina.

Further north is Brooks Peninsula (no services, high winds), then Quatsino Sound. Quatsino Sound has Winter Harbour with a Government Dock, and fuel is available but please confirm.

After Quatsino Sound, to get to the Inside Passage of Vancouver Island, you cruise around the north end of Vancouver Island at Cape Scott. No services until you are at the East Coast of Vancouver Island, first stop with a Marina and fuel is Port Hardy.

The other alternative is to leave Quatsine Sound and head north to Queen Charlotte Sound
